The Waihi Goldmine Tour Experience

Waihi Gold Mine Tours are attracting visitors by the busload!
Guided tours in a 12 seater tour van started in 2008. Word has spread and now groups are also calling to book a busload of visitors.

Van Tour or our Coach Tours

Van Tour: The van tour is a more extensive 2 hour tour because of number and size of the vehicle. We start with everyone being given high visibility gear and a safety briefing (as we go where heavy machinery is operating).

Coach Tour: The guided, on-board coach tour takes 1 ½ hours. This involves a “through the fence” approach, to see and learn about the workings of the Martha opencast and Favona underground mines.

Waihi Goldmine Tours are part of Waihi’s 20/20 Vision for the future. Our gold mining heritage is important so we look to the past as well as the current mining operations on our tour. The range of knowledge of our guides goes back to the beginnings of mining in 1878.

Special Interest Groups

Take your group on a day out in and around Waihi. Combine the mine tour with a stroll around the Pit Rim Walkway and then maybe a Goldfields Railway train trip. Experience the walks in the Karangahake Gorge or a visit to the Museum. There are a whole range of activities right on our doorstep which you can find out about from the Waihi Visitor Centre.

Recently the Northern Adventure Aviation Group flew in to Waihi Beach airfield, were picked up by bus, taken on the mine tour and to other places of interest. They reported back that they had had a fantastic time. Read more in News

Waihi's Gold Story

At the end of the tour, come and enjoy the Waihi’s Gold Story, downstairs at the Visitor Centre. This is a great way to end your tour, helping to enhance the processes explained on the tour.
